We Care Week

Change the way the world works.

The Achievers mission statement resonates deeply with all its employees and has been the foundation of our corporate culture since its inception. It’s a statement that is proudly displayed above the lunch tables at our flagship office in Toronto, and is a statement that employees humbly walk by – and live by – every single day.

From a work perspective and within the context of my day to day job, it’s clear to me what this statement means, and why we do what we do. As a Senior Implementation Manager within the Professional Services team, I work with customers of all sizes, from all industries, and with various program objectives, and yet I see firsthand that one constant exists across all implementations: real people are being positively impacted by our recognition and engagement software. It’s rare to work for a company where you feel like you are truly making a positive impact and contributing to more engaged and productive work environments. And we’re just getting started!

But is this enough?

With topics like climate change, ever changing politics and human rights issues – amongst many others – constantly being at the forefront of modern-day news stories and pop culture references, is what we are doing, enough? Do we have a bigger responsibility to make greater change outside of our day-to-day roles? Can one person really make a difference when sometimes it feels out of reach and unattainable?

The answer is yes.

One person – or small group of passionate people – can influence a ripple effect that makes a difference, and this is evidenced by the strong efforts of the Achievers CARES volunteer committee.

Celebrating We Care Week

Every year, the Achievers CARES committee organizes various activities to celebrate We Care Week. We Care Week focuses on supporting and encouraging wellness initiatives within the office walls as well as within our local communities.

Promoting wellness at work is just one step forward in making sure that, at an individual level, employees feel valued and recharged; in hopes that they are then able to pay it forward in various ways. From puppy yoga, adult coloring, and massages, employees have the chance to relax, unwind, and take some time for themselves. For those who are interested in local volunteer opportunities, employees can sign up to participate in a sports challenge at CAMH, attend the Achievers Backyard Social where all proceeds will be collected and donated locally, or help sort and serve food at Parkdale Foodbank. When organizing any initiative(s), our Achievers CARES committee always tries to provide employees with options that resonate best with their own personal interests and passions.

But this brings me back to my original question. Will any of this have an impact? I personally believe that yes, it will, because promoting wellness at work can be the catalyst for greater impact beyond our office walls and beyond ourselves. If you feel good, you are likely to do good things. If you do one good thing for another person, they will likely go do good for someone else. It’s a ripple effect that begins with the individual, transpires to our local communities, and has the potential to influence our global society.
